In this hands-on sewing class, you’ll learn how to create a padded and quilted sewing machine carrying bag complete with sturdy handles, a zippered closure, and an optional exterior pocket.
Along the way, we’ll practice useful bag-making skills including working with batting or fusible fleece, installing a zipper, constructing a lining, adding handles, and creating a professional-looking finish.
This project is perfect for confident beginners who are comfortable using their sewing machine and want to build their skills while making something they’ll actually use. Bring your finished bag to sewing classes, quilt retreats, sew days, or anywhere your sewing machine travels with you!
Class will be on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 5-8pm at the Local Republic Market (224 N Main St, Republic, MO)
Materials Needed:
Sewing Machine (and a walking foot if you have one)
1 yard outer fabric
1 yard inner fabric
1 yard fusible fleece (or other bag stabilizer like soft and stable)
1 1/2 yard cotton webbing for straps
24 inch zipper
